In recent years, many people outside Japan have taken on the challenge of learning Japanese, but the question remains: Of all the languages in the world, why did they choose Japanese to study? In this special issue, we introduce three non-Japanese people who use Japanese in their professions, asking them why they undertook the study of Japanese, how they use it in their daily work, and what they think of their current professions. By spotlighting these individuals, we hope that this special feature will trigger you to rediscover the wonderful aspects of the Japanese language, Japanese culture, and international exchange.
