2023 marked the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. Seeking to celebrate this historic milestone in ASEAN-Japan relations, the Japan Foundation (JF) has worked to encourage citizen exchanges between Japan and the countries of ASEAN and has implemented various programs and events.
Do you know what kind of a framework ASEAN actually is, and which countries comprise its members? Simply put, ASEAN is a regional body established with the aim of promoting regional peace, stability and economic growth. Its members are the ten countries of Southeast Asia.
This special issue features a variety of articles detailing the cultural background of the ASEAN countries, the projects that the Japan Foundation has conducted in cooperation with those countries, and the past and future relationship between Japan and ASEAN. We hope that you enjoy this issue, which has something to interest everyone.
